Ο3 Raise Up Manual!
The IO3 Raise up Manual will offer guidance and practical tools for young people and any activist or youth worker to develop alternative narratives to counter hate speech.
The IO3 Raise up Manual will develop knowledge, skills and competences of young people who will be enable to fully participate in all aspects of society.
The Manual complement IO1 and IO2 and it will summarise definitions of hate speech and the different ways to identify it, but above all it will showcase the different ways to Young people including the opportunity of education for democratic citizenship and human rights education.
In this sense, this manual aims to support young people in taking action and working for a social change through social action.
The objective of the Manual is to strengthen reactions to hate speech, by countering, counterbalancing and preventing hate speech and taking social spaces with positive narratives and stories of civil audacity.
The manual will be constituted of:
– Tips to upscale actions against hate speech by using counter and alternative narratives
– Case studies of narratives contributing to the spread of hate speech
– Good practices of the use of counter and alternative narratives, especially from European
frameworks, and embracing a human rights education methodology
– Comics co-produced by young people illustrating the narratives described in the manual.
IO2 will provide professionals working with young people, including those from minority groups and with fewer opportunities, with collected resources and material for inclusive, diverse and equal youth work. The aim of this IO is to empower youth workers to include intercultural learning and diversity component in their daily work to provide youth with necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to promote peace, intercultural dialog, against hate speech, discrimination and violence.
The Toolbox will contribute to prevent hate speech by focusing on developing critical thinking of young people and by creating safe spaces where youth can express their fears and their doubts. The Toolbox will allow youth workers to explore and integrate different innovative and creative approach, tools, methods and resources in their work with and for young people for promotion, education and practices of inclusive learning.
The Toolbox will be constituted of different and complementary elements:
– Values, beliefs and emotional competences of professionals working in the field of youth
– Non-formal learning: principles and settings
– Equality and diversity in the youth sector
– Practical exercise that youth workers can use with young people to build their resilience
– Links to multimedia resources
Each partner will develop 2 activities based on non-formal learning and will be tested and improved during the C1- training for staff (IT, M10) where partners will train each other on how to facilitate the activities developed.
The toolbox will be highly transferable as it will be user friendly and adapted to different context and issues (racism, homophobia, body-shaming, religion intolerance). Furthermore, the Toolbox will be translated in all partner languages.
The IO1 will identify a common definition of ’hate speech’. Since there is no uniform definition of ’hate speech’ under international human rights law, rather, it is a broad concept which captures a wide range of expression. IO1 will advance a shared definition and will identify different forms of ‘hate speech’ according to their severity, guided by states’ international human rights law obligations.
IO1 will also identify positive measures that Partner governments and others can take to counter ‘hate speech’: guidance on what measures State and civil society can adopt to contribute to a community promoting freedom of expression and equality that addresses the principal sources of ‘hate speech’ while exploiting opportunities to counter it.
The structure of the IO1 will be discussed during the Kick-off-Meeting (Paris, FR, Month). P4, Asociación Mar Violeta–SP will lead this IO and will deliver templates, monitor the calendar, collect the relevant information from partners and finalise the output. P3, USB –GR will work on the layout of the IO.
